Estyn is on a mission to empower children in Wales to get involved in the school inspection process, and learn about the work they do to ensure the quality of education in the region. They wanted to develop a series of animations to introduce them to their work before the inspection started. This includes explaining who they are and what they do.
Developing the animation for Estyn was no easy feat. With a target audience ranging from 4 to 16 years old, it was essential to create two distinct scripts that would be appropriate and understandable for both young children and teenagers. This meant crafting two separate storylines and using language suitable for each age group.
In addition to developing the scripts, we also had to create custom characters and use a variety of voice actors to bring the animation to life. Finding the right actors to convey the right tone and message was crucial in ensuring that the animation would be engaging and effective.
But it wasn’t just about the words and voices – the illustrations had to be just as carefully crafted. We wanted to create a style and tone that would appeal to the target audience without feeling patronizing or simplistic. Striking the right balance between fun and informative was vital.
Estyn provided input and feedback at various stages of the animation’s development to ensure that it met its goals and represented its brand accurately. Additionally, Estyn worked closely with DAKONA to ensure that the animation was age-appropriate and effective in educating children about their role in the inspection process.
Overall, the process of developing the animation for Estyn was a complex and multifaceted endeavour, but we’re thrilled with the final result and hope that it will help children in Wales learn more about Estyn and the critical work they do.
